"Wings" is a silent film that tells the story of two World War I fighter pilots, Jack Powell and David Armstrong.  who compete for the affections of the same woman.  Sylvia Lewis, while also competing to be the top pilot in their squadron.  The film also depicts their experiences during the war, including dogfights and bombings.  Eventually, Jack and David become close friends and work together to survive the war, and in the end, Jack sacrifices himself to save David's life.  The film was directed by William A. Wellman and starred Clara Bow, Charles Rogers, and Richard Arlen.
